Windows Server 2003 error: "The integrity of this certificate cannot be guaranteed. The certificate may be corrupted or may have been altered"

Problem

In the General tab under Certificate Information, I receive an error that says, "The integrity of this certificate cannot be guaranteed.  The certificate may be corrupted or may have been altered," on Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

Solution

When this message appears using a QuoVadis certificate installed on Windows Server 2003, it is generally because the SHA-256 certificate chaining hotfix is not installed.

In line with industry standards, QuoVadis now issues SSL by default using the SHA-256 algorithm.

Although Windows Server 2003 allows installation of SHA-256 certificates, it requires a Microsoft hotfix to properly process their certificate chains (intermediate or root certificates).

More information can be found in the KB article found at https://support.quovadisglobal.com/KB/a414/how-to-enable-sha256-certificates-from-quovadis-global.aspx.
