Delete Certificates from iKey

Problem

How do I delete a digital certificate from my iKey?

Solution

Before you delete a certificate, you should be aware of the following:

  • If you have automatic certificate registration enabled, and you delete a certificate from your iKey, the next time you remove your iKey, the certificate will also be removed from the Windows certificate store, and permanently deleted.

  • If you have archived e-mail that was encrypted with the certificate you are deleting, you will no longer be able to decrypt that e-mail. In this case, you may want to export the certificate to a file before deleting it from your iKey.

To delete a certificate from the iKey:

  1. Right-click the certificate and then select Delete From Token from the shortcut menu.
  2. When asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Note: Deleting a certificate does NOT delete the corresponding public and private keys. If you also want to delete the keys, you must do so manually.

To delete a public or private key from the iKey:

If you delete a private key, you will no longer be able to use the associated certificate for signing, encrypting or decrypting e-mail. Deleting a key does not delete the corresponding certificate.

  1. Right-click the key you want to delete, and then select Delete From Token from the shortcut menu that appears.
  2. When asked to confirm the deletion, select Yes.
