Invalid CSR Error Message

Problem

I receive an Invalid CSR error message when submitting a CSR through Trust/Link

Solution

As of version 3 of Trust/Link Enterprise, CSR validation is done directly after the CSR text is pasted into the form.  When a CSR is pasted in you either get receive a green 'CSR Validated' or a red Invalid CSR. Please confirm the content of your CSR and try again.'

An example of the Invalid CSR error.

If you received this Invalid CSR error, please check for the following:

  • Ensure that you are not performing a Renew function on IIS 7 and above.  This function gives you what appears to be a CSR, but it contains additional information that breaks the decoding of normal certificates. More information can be found at https://support.quovadisglobal.com/KB/a262/how-do-i-renew-a-certificate-on-microsoft-iis-7.aspx.

  • Ensure that you copied the '-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----' and '-----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----' header lines along with the PEM encoding of the CSR.

  • Ensure that your CSR has a key size of 2048 bits or higher.

If you have checked all of these and you continue to receive an error, please contact QuoVadis Support who will be happy to assist.
