Class 1 Digital ID Installation Instructions for Windows Live 2011


Symantec will send an email with instructions for picking up the Digital ID.

  1. Copy (CTRL +C) the PIN from the e-mail
  2. Follow the URL link to the pick up page
  3. Paste (CTRL+V) the PIN into the field on the pickup page
  4. Click Submit

Note:  Microsoft Internet Explorer must be used when picking up the PIN, so that Windows LIve 2011 can locate the Digital ID installed in the browser.

Install the Digital ID:

  1. Open Windows Live 2011 and click the Accounts tab
  2. Click the Properties icon

  3. Click Security tab
  4. Click Select under 'Signing certificate' and select your certificate
  5. Click Select under 'Encrypting preferences' and select your certificate

  6. Click Apply then OK to accept the certificates

Send a Digitally Signed Message:

  1. Open a new email message
  2. Click the Options tab
  3. Click the Digitally sign icon

  4. Complete and send the message

Save Recipients' Digital ID:

Note:  Before you are able to send an encrypted message,  a copy of the recipient's Digital ID needs to be saved as a Contact within Windows Live 2011.  Have the recipient send you a digitally signed message. Once a digitally signed message is received from the recipient, follow these steps:

  1. Open the digitally signed message
  2. Click the Blue Ribbon icon that says, Digitally signed and verified
  3. Click the Security tab
  4. Click View Certificates
  5. Click Add to Contacts and you will receive a confirmation of the Digital ID saved to all contacts that have the matching email address

Send an Encrypted Message:

  1. Open a new email message and use the Contact to which you have saved the recipient's Digital ID to
  2. Click the Options tab
  3. Click the Encrypt icon
  4. Complete and send the message
