Managed PKI for SSL - Installation Instructions for Sun ONE

Description


This document provides instructions for installing SSL Certificates. If unable to use these instructions on the server, Symantec recommends to contact Sun ONE.
 

Step 1: Download Symantec Root and Intermediate CA Certificate

  1. Downlaod the Root CA from this link: SO4785
  2. Select the Managed PKI for SSL section
  3. Save the file as Root.txt
  4. Download the Intermediate CA certificate from this link: INFO657
  5. Select the Managed PKI for SSL tab
  6. Select the appropriate Intermediate CA for your SSL Certificate type.
    NOTE: To check which certificate type you have purchased, follow the steps from this link: SO22021
     
  7. Copy the Intermediate CA certificate and paste it on a Notepad or vi document.
  8. Make sure there are 5 dashes to either side of the BEGIN CERTIFICATE and END CERTIFICATE
    and that no white space, extra line breaks or additional characters have been inadvertently added.
  9. Save the files as intermediate_ca.txt


Step 2: Install Symantec Root and Intermediate CA Certificate

  1. Select the server instance to manage and click Manage.
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click Install Certificate.
  4. Select Server Certificate Chain.
  5. Enter the key pair file password.
  6. Enter a Certificate Name. For example: Intermediate CA
  7. Select Message text (with headers).
  8. Open the intermediate_ca.txt and copy the entire certificate to the clipboard.
  9. Paste the text from the Intermediate certificate into the box and click OK.
  10. Click Add Server Certificate.
  11. Do not shutdown and restart the server, proceed to the instructions below first.


Step 3: Obtain the SSL Certificate

  1. Once your Managed PKI for SSL administrator has approved your Certificate request, you will receive an email with the Certificate attached (cert.cer), as well as in the body of the email itself.
  2. If the certificate is imbedded in the body of the email, copy and paste it into a text file using Vi or Notepad.
    NOTE: Do not use Microsoft Word or other word processing programs that may add characters. Confirm that there are no extra lines or spaces in the file.

    The text file should look like:

    -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

              [encoded data]

    -----END CERTIFICATE-----

    NOTE: To download the certificate from your Managed PKI for SSL subscriber services page, see solution SO6621
    Please select X.509 as a certificate format and copy only the End Entity Certificate.
     
  3. Save the certificate as public.txt


Step 4: Install the SSL Certificate

  1. Select the server instance to manage and click Manage and make sure to choose https-yourdomain
  2. Click Security
  3. Click Install Certificate
  4. Select the This Server option.
  5. Enter the key pair file password.
  6. Enter a Certificate Name. For example: Symantec SSL Certificate New
  7. Select Message text (with headers).
  8. Paste the Certificate text into the box and click OK.
  9. Click Add Server Certificate.
  10. A warning message appears, which states that changes require a shutdown. Click OK.
  11. A message confirming that your certificate has been added. Click OK.
  12. To verify the certificate is installed correctly, use the Symantec Installation Checker
