How do I install my digital certificate into Lotus Notes?

Solution

This article assumes that you have your certificate saved on your computer as a .p12/.pfx file.

  1. Open Lotus Notes.
  2. Select File.  From the drop down menu, select Security and then click on User Security.

  3. A window named User Security will open.

  4. On the left panel underneath Security Basics, expand Your Identity and click on Your Certificates.

  5. From the drop down list that appears, select Your Internet Certificates.

  6. Click on the Get Certificates button drop list and select Import Internet Certificates.

  7. The Specify File Containing... window will appear.

  8. Navigate to your certificate .p12/.pfx file that you want to install and click on the Open button.

  9. Note: If the Select Import File Format window appears, select PKCS#12 encoded from the list and click on the Continue button.

  10. At the Enter Password window, enter in the password provided to you by QuoVadis for the certificate file.

  11. Your digital certificate, and the CA certificates that go with it should now be listed underneath All Internet Certificates back in the Import Internet Certificates window.

  12. Click on the Accept All button.

  13. Enter in your Lotus Notes PIN in the Lotus Notes window.  Click on the OK button when finished.

  14. A window will appears that says, "New Certificates were accepted into your ID."  Click on the OK button.

  15. Once directed back to the User Security window, click on Mail on the left panel underneath Security Basics.

  16. Click on the Encryption and Signature Warnings... button to the right.

  17. Check that the two security options, "Don't warn me whenever mail encryption fails, or whenever incoming mail has an unverified signature" and "Don't check the trustworthiness of other people's certificates or warn me about trust problems" are not selected.  If they are selected, uncheck both options and click on the OK button.

  18. When directed back to the User Security window, click on the OK button.

  19. A window will appears that says, "Your Mail security options have been updated."
