How do I install an SSL certificate onto iPlanet?

Solution

This guide explains the process for installing an SSL certificate onto iPlanet.  This guide is given in three parts.  On new certificate databases, you must follow the entire document.

Note:

  • You must follow this guide in the correct order or the certificate may not function properly.
  • A shutdown or restart before this process has been completed may cause errors.

Getting Started

  1. In the Server Manager, select the server where you will install the SSL certificate.
  2. Select the Security tab at the top and then click on Install Certificate on the side menu.

Part I - Installing the Root Certificate

Note: The option for Trust Certificate Authority (CA) is not selected because it is generally used for client authentication of End User certificates to your website.

  1. In the Install Certificate menu from the side, click on the Server Certificate Chain radio button.
  2. Select the Message text (with headers) radio button.  Copy and paste the text of the QuoVadis Root CA 2 into the message text box.  The PEM encoded text for this certificate can be found at http://www.quovadisglobal.com/QVRepository/DownloadRootsAndCRL/QuoVadisRootCA2-PEM.aspx.
  3. Click on OK at the bottom and accept the certificate when prompted.

Part II - Install the Intermediate Certificate

  1. In the Install Certificate menu from the side, click on the Server Certificate Chain radio button.
  2. Select the Message text (with headers) radio button.  Copy and paste the text of the QuoVadis Global SSL ICA G2 certificate into the message text box.  The PEM encoded text for this certificate can be found at http://www.quovadisglobal.com/QVRepository/DownloadRootsAndCRL/QuoVadisGlobalSSLICAG2-PEM.aspx.
  3. Click on OK at the bottom and accept the certificate when prompted.

  4. Select the Message text (with headers) radio button.  Copy and paste the text of your SSL certificate into the message text box.  In order to do this, ensure that your certificate is in PEM format.  In most scenarios, QuoVadis provides you with your certificate in PEM format by default.
  5. Click on OK at the bottom and accept the certificate when prompted.
  6. Select the Preferences tab at the top and then click on the Encryption On/Off item in the side menu.
