How do I renew an SSL Certificate?

IMPORTANT: Beginning July 16, 2007, Symantec will be implementing a new way of purchasing and managing your SSL Certificates through a personalized self-service online console called Symantec. Therefore, please use one of the following methods that apply to you. If you have a Symantec account, follow steps listed in Method 2. Otherwise, use Method 1.  
 
Method 1
 
To renew an SSL certificate with the Challenge Phrase, follow these steps: (if you have a Symantec account, see Method 2 below)
 
1. Go to  Symantec Search Certificates page. 
 
NOTE: If you did not purchase the certificate through www.Symantec.com, use the specific link for your country. For example: Certificates bought from www.Symantec.co.uk click here
 
2. Enter the Common Name, order number, or serial number of the certificate you wish to renew
 
3. Click Search
 
4. Click the name of the certificate you want to renew. The most recent certificates appear at the top.
 
5. Click Renew
 
6. Enter the Challenge Phrase of the certificate
 
7. Click Continue
 
If the Challenge Phrase was lost, click Forget your Challenge Phrase? > Email the reminder question.  An email will automatically be sent to the Technical contact on the current order with a reminder question that was specified during enrollment.
 
To by-pass the Challenge Phrase, click Continue 
 
8. During enrollment, enter the contact information and the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file generated from your Web server.

Note: If you require assistance generating the CSR, please see the CSR Generation Instructions page. Once you have completed the enrollment, you will be given an order number

Your order will be processed within 2 - 5 business days.

Method 2

If you have created a Symantec account, please follow the instructions below:
 
1. Go to the Symantec
 
2. Enter your Username and Password and click Sign In.
 
If you do not remember your Username or Password, refer to  SO6061
 
3. After successfully logging into your account, the main window will display a list of recent certificate orders From the list, select the corresponding certificate to renew

Note: If the certificate is not displayed, see solution number  SO6059 for additional assistance
 
4. Under Status tab, click Renew 
 
During the renewal process, enter contact information and Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file generated from your Web server

Note: If you require assistance generating the CSR, please see the CSR Generation Instructions page. Once you have completed the enrollment, you will be given an order number
 
Your order will be processed within 2 - 5 business days. To view the status of your order, log into your Symantec account and select the pending certificate order.
