Installation Instructions for Mac OS X Server 10.6

This document provides instructions for installing SSL Certificates for MAC OS X 10.6 server. If you are unable to use these instructions for your server, RapidSSL recommends that you contact Apple.

Step 1:  Obtain you SSL Certificate

    1.    The RapidSSL certificate will be sent by email.
    2.    Copy the certificate imbedded in the body of the email and paste it into a text file using Vi or Notepad.

            The text file should look like:

           -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

                      [encoded data]

           -----END CERTIFICATE-----

    3.    Make sure there are 5 dashes to either side of the BEGIN CERTIFICATE and END CERTIFICATE 
           and that no white spaces, extra line breaks or additional characters have been inadvertently added.

           NOTE: The certificate can be also downloaded from the RapidSSL User Portal by
           following the steps from this link:  SO16222
           Please select X.509 as a certificate format and copy only the End Entity Certificate.

    4.    Paste the content of the certificate and save it with extension .txt


Step 2:  Download Intermediate CA Certificate:

    1.    Download the Intermediate CA certificate according to your SSL product from this link: INFO1548
    2.    Copy and paste the Intermediate CA certificate to a TextEdit document
    3.    Save the file as intermediate_ca.txt

 

Step 3:  Installing the Private Key, SSL Certificate and Intermediate CA Certificate:


    1.    Once you have obtained the Intermediate CA certificate, together with your SSL certificate
           
and Private Key you can upload them by using the Server Admin.
    2.    Open Server Admin and click on Certificates
    3.    Click the "+" sign and then choose Import a Certificate Identity

            

   
4.    Open up the plus sign as indicated in the diagram.
    5.    Select Import a Certificate Identity
  6.    Drag the 3 files into the windows as indicated in the diagram: 

            
 

  • Your private key file. This was the private key created on the server.
    For more information please refer to this link: SO22542 
  • Your SSL certificate file. The file you downloaded in Step 1
  • Your Intermediate certificate file from Step 2
     

Step 4: Assign the SSL Certificate to your website

    1.    On the left window. Click Web.
    2.    Click Sites.
    3.    Choose the site you want to select the certificate onto.
    4.    Click the Security tab.
    5.    Check Enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
    6.    Choose the SSL certificate.
    7.    At the prompt "Do you want to restart Web now?" Choose Yes.
    8.    Test your installation with the RapidSSL SSL Certificate Checker.
