Move certificate from Tomcat to Tomcat

Problem

Move certificate from Tomcat to Tomcat
Move keystore from Tomcat to Tomcat

Solution

The Thawte Certificate can be moved from Tomcat to Tomcat following these steps:

Step 1: Create a copy your Keystore

  1. Access the directory which the  keystore  was saved to. By default, the keystore may be saved in one of these directories on your machine:
  • C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator\.keystore
  • C:\Documents and Settings\your name\.keystore

Note: The default name, for the keystore is .keystore, if none was provided.

  1. Make a copy of the .keystore file, preferably to an external disk, in the case of a system crash. This copy of the .keystore file contains your Private and Public keys.

Important: Make a note of the password which was set for the .keystore file when it was generated.

Step 2: Import the certificate to another server

Copy the backed up Keystore file to your SSL Directory. By default, the keystore is saved in one of the following directories on your machine:

  • C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator\.keystore
  • C:\Documents and Settings\your name\.keystore

Step 3: Configure Tomcat Server
Once the certificates are imported into the keystore, configure your server.xml to enable SSL. Refer to solution: SO2144

Step 4: Verify your certificate installation

To verify if your certificate is installed correctly, use the Thawte Installation Checker
