Error: "CertEnroll::CX509Enrollment::p CreateRequest: Access is denied. 0x80070005 (WIN32:5)"

Problem

The following error message occurs during the enrollment of a Thawte Code Signing for Microsoft Authenticode (Multi-Purpose):

Error: "CertEnroll::CX509Enrollment::p CreateRequest: Access is denied. 0x80070005 (WIN32:5)"

Cause

This error occurs if there is no write file permissions to save the private key

Solution

To request a Thawte Code Signing for Microsoft Authenticode (Multi-Purpose), the user must have administrative privileges to save security files on the machine.  During the enrollment of the certificate, the system will generate a private key.  This is a security item and if the user does not have write file permissions, the machine will not be able to generate the private key.

To resolve the error, log in to the machine using a login with administrative rights and enroll for the certificate again.
