How to install an SSL certificate using Sun Java System Web Server 7.0

Solution

This document provides instructions for installing SSL Certificates. If you are unable to use these instructions for your server, Symantec recommends that you contact either the vendor of your software or an organization that supports Sun Java System Web Server.

Step 1:  Install Intermediate CA Certificate

  • Obtain Symantec Intermediate CA certificate, refer to INFO657.


Install the Symantec Intermediate CA using the Administration Console

  1. Click Common Tasks tab > Edit Configuration


     
  2. Click Certificates


     
  3. Click Certificate Authorities tab


     
  4. Click Install
    Note:
    The Intermediate CA certificate obtained from Step 1: Install Intermediate CA Certificate requires a manual installation on Sun Web Server 7.0.


     
  5. Select Token > Click Next

    Select the token (Cryptographic Device), which contains the keys. If your key is stored in the local key database maintained by Sun Java System Web Server 7.0, choose internal. If your key is stored in a Smart Card or other external device or engine, choose the name of the external token from the drop down list box. Enter the password for the selected token.



     
  6. Enter Certificate Data > Select Certificate Data > Click Next

    Paste the Symantec Intermediate CA certificate text in the text area provided. When you copy and paste the text, be sure to include the headers “BEGIN CERTIFICATE” and “END CERTIFICATE” — including the beginning and ending hyphens. You can also click Browse button and select the .DER file manually.


     
  7. Certificate Type > Select Certificate Chain > Click Next


     
  8. Review the Symantec Intermediate CA information that is in the process of installation. Click Finish to complete the installation process.


     
  9. Results will display a dialog window stating that the Symantec Intermediate CA was successully installed. Click Close

 

Step 2:  Install SSL Certificate

Install the SSL certificate using the Administration Console

Note: Download the SSL certificate in X.509 format.

  • Download the certificate from Symantec Trust Center refer to solution SO8061
  • Download the certificate from Managed PKI for SSL subscriber services page refer to solution SO6621
     
  1. Click Server Certificates tab > Install button.


     
  2. Select Configuration > Click Next

    Select a configuration from the configuration list for which you need to install the certificate.


     
  3. Select Tokens > Click Next

    Select the token (Cryptographic Device), which contains the keys. If your key is stored in the local key database maintained by Sun Java System Web Server 7.0, choose internal. If your key is stored in a Smart Card or other external device or engine, choose the name of the external token from the drop down list box. Enter the password for the selected token.


     
  4. Enter Certificate Data > Click Next

    Paste the Symantec X.509 format SSL certificate text in the text area provided. When you copy and paste the text, be sure to include the headers “BEGIN CERTIFICATE” and “END CERTIFICATE” — including the beginning and ending hyphens. You can also click Browse button and select the .DER file manually.


     
  5. Provide Certificate Details > Click Next

    Provide a nickname to be used for the certificate. Select the HTTP Listener from the available list for handling the secure requests.


     
  6. Review the SSL certificate information that is in the process of installation. Click Finish to complete the installation process.


     
  7. Results will display a dialog window stating that the SSL certificate was successully installed. Click Close
