Scenario

One question we’ve received during the pilot is how to correctly update your BIMI record, and where to put your PEM file and SVG logo.

Solution

The files go where?

When you purchased your VMC, you submitted a SVG file, and received back a PEM file. Both files, retaining their original names, need to be placed on a publicly accessible server, and accessible via https (note: http will cause a failure).

Note: The SVG that is hosted and referenced in your BIMI record, must match, to the byte, the SVG file that was validated and is referenced in your PEM file. If there is a mismatch, the BIMI functionality will be inhibited. 

Updating Your BIMI Record

Once your files are publicly available, the URLs for those files are entered in to your BIMI record. The BIMI record is a TXT DNS entry on the Selector subdomain that contains URLs.

Once your files are publicly available, the URLs for those files are entered in to your BIMI record. The URL will need to be widely accessible and static. The format is:

l=[url to SVG file]

a=[url to PEM file]

Here is an example of DigiCert’s BIMI record:

v=BIMI1; l=https://www.digicert.com/resources/DigiCertLogo_WhiteOnBlue.svg; a=https://cacerts.digicert.com/digicert_com_vmc_2021-01-06.pem
