How to enable ActiveX for Certificate creation with Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9 & 10

Please make the following changes to the security settings of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the menu bar, click Tools  Internet Options > Security
  3. In the Security tab, click the Custom Level button
  4. Under ActiveX controls and plug-ins, set the following ActiveX options:
    • Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls: Enable
    • Binary and script behaviors: Enable
    • Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt
    • Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Prompt
    • Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked safe: Prompt
    • Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable
    • Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting: Enable
  5. Under Downloads the settings should be:
    • Automatic prompting for file downloads: Enable
    • File Download: Enable
  6. Click OK OK
  7. Close the Internet Explorer windows

For Internet Explorer 9 and later, you must also disable ActiveXFiltering, if turned on, see: Enable ActiveX Controls in Internet Explorer

Note: If the enrollment still does not work correctly it could be due to a cache issue. If any additional problems occur please clear the browser cache.
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the menu bar, click Tools Internet Options > General
  3. Under the section "Browsing history" select the "Delete" button
  4. Check the following box:
    • Temporary Internet files
    • Cookies
    • History
    • Form data
    • Passwords
    • InPrivate Filtering data
  5. Select Delete button
  6. Once the cache is cleared, close and re-open Internet Explorer and attempt the enrollment again.
